About Gap 40

At Gap 40 LLC, we are dedicated lowering the life expectancy gap in the U.S. through education and advocacy. Our mission is to educate healthcare workers and the public about the causes of health disparities as well as interpersonal and structural solutions that lead to health equity. We actively engage local communities in initiatives that promote health equity and work tirelessly to advocate for policy changes at both local and national levels. Together, we strive to create a healthier, more equitable future for all.

Carla's Story

I began my journey in Nursing with an independant study for my Bachelor's degree. I learned about the lack of access to care of migrant farm workers. That awareness and passion about everyone having a fair chance to achieve their best health stayed with me throughout my 30-year nursing career.

During that time I witnessed the real-life impacts of poverty, housing insecurity, limited education and more on people's health. After obtaining my Master's degree, my independent study continued and I earned my Certified Diversity Executive certificate. I continue to explore: How did we get here? What can we do about it? This is what led me to start Gap 40. I want to shorten the gap and heal the people.
